Not really so much an update as just a few things I'd like to yack about. First, something political. Sen.John McCain decided on picking Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin as his VP Running-mate. To most, she's a total unknown..I know I knew practically nothing about her. As I read more about her, the more I like her. Whether it was shrewd thinking or complete desperation on McCain's part...who knows. I was a lukewarm supporter of McCain, but with her on the ticket..I'm in. Jackie and Dunlap over at Red State Update give their two-cents.
We rented a few videos this week of various levels of coolness. We rented "Doomsday", "Resident Evil: Extinction", "Angel.A", and something called "Inside". First, about "Angel.A": This is a B&W french film by Luc Besson, and it's about a low-level hustler in Paris who's in a tight spot with various crimelords. In a moment of weakness, he attempts suicide. He's saved at the last minute by a tall leggy blonde woman named Angela. As they spend time together, he learns that she's actually an Angel from heaven and he is her assignment. She helps change his attitudes about himself and helps set him straight. It was a surprisingly good film despite being so unknown. Dutch supermodel Rie Rasmussen plays Angela and she's really good in her role. Nice crazy long legs too. ;)
As for "Resident Evil"....meh. I was in the mood for a mindless Zombie-flick, having just finished "Monster Nation" by David Wellington. We haven't watched "Doomsday" or "Inside" yet.
Last night we went to dinner at Bombers (http://www.bombersburritobar.com/) . Good big cheap food! :D and we then went to see "Tropic Thunder",

which was a surprisingly excellent comedy. There's been some protest from various special interest groups about the film concerning some of the plotlines and comedy bits. Some take offense about Robert Downey appearing in 'blackface' and some groups are upset about jokes concerning the mentally retarded. These objections are totally groundless and these groups would know that if they'd actually take an hour and a half out of their lives and watched the film. Nobody, black or mentally retarded comes away looking bad in this film. The wife and I were wiping tears away we were laughing so hard. I highly recommend it.
